Hacienda San Andres
WHY HACIENDA SAN ANDRES IS CONSIDERED A PUEBLO MAGICO?

Just an hour away from the hustle and bustle of Mexico City, is Hacienda San Andrés, located in Ayapango, in the State of Mexico. Ayapango derives from ayáhuitl, "mist"; pan, "above," and co, "place," whose meaning is "place of mists in the heights."Agriculture and livestock are features more of an agrarian way of life for children and adults.
The oldest data available about pre-Hispanic Ayapango dates back to 1430, the probable date of the birth of Aquiauhtzin Cuauhquiyahuacatzintli, reported by a nobleman from Ayanpanco.
All the old houses today have a plaque with their pre-Hispanic name that refers to the characteristics of the area. For those looking for handicrafts, you will find woolen textiles, pottery, woodcarving, and leather goods.

The gastronomy stands out for its pre-Hispanic influence, with traditional dishes such as broad bean broth, mushroom soup, barbecue, mixiotes, mole, pulque, and milk. The region is famous for its Poxtla cheeses. In fact, at the El Lucero farm, you can taste different milk derivatives.

Postcard-like volcanoes are seen every day when waking up in this destination. The Izta-Popo National Park is the perfect place for those who dream of climbing and reaching the top of this famous volcanic mountain.

The main festivities of the town are directly related to its saints. Such is the case of the Fiesta de Santiago Apóstol every July 25, where different typical dances are performed: the Dance of the Moors and Christians, the Dance of the Chinelos, or the Twelve Pairs of France.

Ayapango preserves beautiful architecture, with houses with gabled roofs and central patios adorned with flowers. Visiting Hacienda San Andrés means walking through the streets of the town and locating the Casa Afrancesada and the Casa Grande, essential exponents of the local architecture and the ex-convent of Santiago Apóstol, in Baroque style with Solomonic columns.
